THE VERMONT-QUEBEC AREA LAMPMAN'S
(1204) (1205) (1206) (1207) (1208) (1209) (1436) (1427) (1441) (5772) (5035) (See pg. 42 ahead)
Essentially this section concerns the descent of John Michael Lampman (1202). A great deal of new basic research has allowed the placement of the other Lampman family, namely that of John Michael (1202) brother Frederick's (1153) son Stephen (1160) whose descent overlapped the same areas in Quebec and Vermont. Stephen (1160) and descent are to be found starting at page 141 ahead.
In previous editions of this book, this section was entitled the Vermont Lampmans. The new title is recognition of the fact that it is one unified area comprising way up New York and Vermont and the contiguous area of lower Quebec. Complicating things is the fact that the boundary with Quebec varied as much as 38 miles before being fixed at where it is today. The Lampmans who went back and forth in the area as available records show apparently were not aware of or concerned about the Country.
In addition to the two lines in Quebec, Fred Lampman (1153) father of Stephen (1160) was there, but only briefly before moving on to Ontario with his son Peter (1155). One of the major reasons for untangling this area is because so many descent went West. The lure of cheap land and the terrible freeze weather of 1816 where frost killed crops in June were cause.
Complicating the Quebec search has been the ethnic change. The area was mostly English speaking for the early years (the late 1700's) but gradually changed to a now mostly French speaking one. There are still many church, land, and cemetery records that could be searched, but bi-lingual researchers are rare.
It turns out that some of the tie ins made in previous Editions of this book were wrong and now are corrected. It is doubtful many new major changes will occur.
Let's start with the 1790 census of Vermont, which lists Abraham Lampman (1206). Highgate 1-0-3-0-0, Michael Lampman (1202) Highgate 4-0-2-1-0. Henry Lampman (5772) Swanton 1-1-1-0-0, Stephen Lampman (4145) Swanton 1-0-3-0-0. The 1800 census lists Henry Lampman (5772) Highgate 1M 10-, 2F 10-, 1MIF 26-44. Stephen Lampman (4145) 2M 6-, 2F 10-, 1M 1F 26-44.
In the 1810 census, there appear two new untied in Lampmans, Aaron (E35), Pownal, 1MlF 10-, 2M 16-, 2M 26-, 1F 45-. Jonathan Lampman (C395) 2M 10-, 3M 16-, 2F 26-. In 1820 census there appears Highgate Michael Lampman (4260) 1F 10-, 1MIF 26-45. Nella (Mrs.?) Highgate, 1M 16-25, 1F 10-15, 1F 16-18, 1F 26-44. Also in Pownal appears Michael Lampman (4260?) 2M, 2F 10-, IMIF 10-15, 1F 16-18, 1F 16-25,1M 26-44 and Oliver Lampman (7693?) 2F 10-, 3M 10-15, 1F 16-25, 1M 26-44. In 1830 there appears Highgate, William Lampman (5765?) 2F 5-, 1M 30-, 1F 40- and in Swanton, Matthias Lampman (5035) 1M 10-, 2F 15-, 2MIF 20-, 2MlF 20-, 2MlF 30-, 1M117 70-. Also, Henry Lampman (1750) 2MlF 5-, 2M 10-, 1MIF 15-, 1M 30-, 1F 40-. Levi Landman (E38) also in Brattleborough, Windham Co.
Of John Michael Lampman's (1202) five sons, we start with Jacob Lampman (1427) whose story is to be found starting on page 42 ahead. Next is Abraham Lampman (1206).
Examination by 1955 of three books, The Gazetteer of Franklin and Grand Isle counties Vermont published 1883 by H. Child, Syracuse, N.Y.; Aldrich's History of Franklin and Grand Isle Counties pub. 1891; and Abby Hemenway's Vermont Gazetteer Vol. 4, 1882, lead to the conclusion that two separate Lampman families were settled there rather than one line, and by 1970 as explained under the Canadian Lampman heading ahead this conclusion was confirmed. The Child Gazetteer in its history of the Town of Highgate states that in 1786-87 a colony of early German settlers from New York settled there because they (Loyalists) thought they were in Canada (but they really were not all Loyalists), namely John Hogle (1442), Michael (1202) and Peter (1436) Lampman, and Peter Wagoner. Yet by 1791 Michael Lampman was elected selectman and Peter Lampman fence viewer. The Hemmanway Gazetteer Vol. 4 p. 994 states under Town of Swanton, that Michael (1202), Stephen (1160), and Henry (5772) Lampman and John Hogle were the early settlers. John Hogle (1442) was husband of Maria Lampman (1441).
In 1955 the writer found in Quebec Province Museum, Quebec, Canada a book "History of Parish of Dunham, Quebec" by T.R. Millman rector there 1946. Dunham was the first township in Quebec Lower Canada 1796. The early settlers included Lampman's from Hoosec, New York State. The records of all Saints Angelican Church (AK), Dunham, start 1808. A member of this church in 1955 is Arthur Lampman (2005) who lives on a farm nearby. The writer visited him and from him and a typewritten copy he had of the "History of Fordyce, Quebec" by the Fordyce Women's Institute, recopied by Gerald E. Corey, another

missing link in the Lampman records is filled in, and as usual more problems are raised.
Quotes from Fordyce History - in the 1796 the Associates of Thomas Dunn, the founder of Dunham, were Andrew Ten Eyck, Henry Ten Eyck, Abraham Lampman (1206), Phillip and Jacob Ruiter, etc. A great many of the first settlers were of Dutch and German descent and came from New York State, but the far greater number were United Empire Loyalists. In early 1800's, there was a sawmill on the Lampman brook near the Ellison farm. Jacob Ellison (2009) d. 1855 m. Catherine Lampman (2006) b. 1810 d. 1880. The Ruiter family was Dutch from Hoosac, N.Y. The Lampmans and Ruiters came from the same locality in N.Y. (A full page in the Fordyce History quotes a reference from the New York State Committee of Safety resolution 1780 - that Rebecca Ruyter, (Mrs. Henry), Elizabeth Ruyter, Elizabeth Letcher, Maria Young, and Susannah Lantman, be removed from the State. The History says Susannah Lantman was probably a daughter of Abraham Lampman, the Associate who died Dunham 1804 age 80. This is an error. We have an additional reference which states "9-28-1780 Susannah Lantman (1211) of Hoosic was not allowed to stay there, her husband having gone to the enemy". Quotes are in the Fordyce History from "History of Brome Co., Quebec" by Thomas, that Abraham Lampman was accompanied by his son Capt. (Film 501.57), shows deed from Michael Lampman (1202) to Robert Lester dated 11-17-1800 where Elizabeth Best (2042) widow of the late John Best (2722) resided as well as John Michael (1202).
At the bp. of Abraham Lampman (2012) the witnesses were Abraham (1206) and Eve (E209) possible sister. The baptism of Christina Lampman (2059) occurred 2-9-1799 by Rector John Doty of Christ Church, witnesses Abraham Lampman (1206) and wife Margaret Lampman (2042) an old church record book (Phillipsburg Anglican) in the Sweetsburg courthouse shows Charlotta Lampman (5033) of Stanbridge married 3-1823 Alex McKinney (5034). The record also states Charlotta was a sister of Christina but this Christina was (2058) a daughter of Abraham Lampman for a letter that was placed in the hands of Dr. Voorhis written by Alex McKinney (5034) states his wife was a daughter of Abraham Lampman. Per TS in Riverside Cemetery, East Farnham, Quebec, Catherine Lampman (2006) b. 1803 d. 9-41880 age 77. At same place lies Jacob Ellison (E109) 1841-1922 wife Maria Chrysler (E111), 1845-1919, Zaccheus Ellison (E110) 18371904.
From the above it would appear that Abraham Lampman (1206) had a brother Ephraim (2057). The Fordyce History states that Teals and Shufelts from Clavarack, N.Y. were other families there. John Shufelt (2011) b. 1810 Fordyce d. 1-25-1879, married Christina Lampman (2059) b. 1798, d. 1879 age 81 (TS). We were not given the marriage date so (2059) may be the same person who married Francis Monroe (2058). (2011) is buried Cowansville Cong. Cemetery. The identity of Ephraim Lampman, or lack of identity, may be explained in DAR Vermont Vol. 16 concerning the Wright family cemetery, Town of Rockingham. Bradley Wright d. 6-12-1840 age 20, son of Nathan F. Wright and Polly Lampman (6025) daughter of Ephraim Lampson (2057?) and Mary Stevens.
The 1970 research in Quebec resolved four main open questions but did not settle others. The first big question was that about the Abraham Lampman who died in 1804 of overexertion felling a tree. Only one Abraham existed, unless one postulated (an extreme almost impossible) another immigrant, that would fit, and that one was (1220) b. 1739 (D) to John Peter (1011). The "History of Fordyce, Quebec" quoted ahead stated he died 1804, age 80, therefore a birth in 1724 which did not fit. The original and older source used by Fordyce was J.E. Thomas "History of the Eastern Townships" 1866 which stated "An aged man felling a tree". Thomas also stated Dunham Flat was settled by Abraham Lampman from New York in 1795, died 1804 father-in-law of Jacob Helicker and the original Associates of Dunham were John and Jacob Helicker, Abraham Lampman, Philip and Jacob Ruiter. This raises the question, which was the Associate of Dunham, Abraham (1220) born 1739 or Abraham (1206) born 1764. Even Fordyce doubts (1220) was the Associate and thinks Capt. Abraham (1206) was the one. Fordyce also says "Abraham Lampman came with his son Capt. Abraham. Then Capt. Abraham (1206) and his son Abraham (2012) would be the Lampman, Sr. and Jr. of the United Empire Loyalist records (UCLP 18/1261834 and 1836, LB Index 1836-37 (162).) Even though some sources say they were from Lunenberg district of Ontario the land claim records do not agree, showing they were from Dunham. Unlike all his brothers who have records of children in New York State, there is no such children record for Abraham (1220). Since in the long time span of 26 years he is only recorded as a baptism witness twice, it will take a lot of evidence to show he was married. There is a clear clue provided in the Haldemand Papers - Returns of Loyalists 17781785. Book 166, p. 222, 223 Refugees in Quebec lists Abraham Lampman from New York with no women or children, of the Kings Rangers. Then the Loyalist Land records provide a second clue. The only Abraham early claim was by an Abraham Lampman (2073) of Stamford, in 1796. The claims of Abraham Sr. and Jr. of Dunham (1206), (2012) were much later 1834-1836.
The second question is who was the father of Abraham Lampman (1206) born 1759, d. 1847 per Fordyce (b. 1764, d. 1847 per tombstone, Cowansville), wife Margaret (2042) the Capt. Abraham of Dunham. Some of the Lampman's were spelled Lantman in the New York records. Abraham (1206) b. 1764 was so spelled in the Luke account book as was the Matthew (7036) who married Dollie Simpson (5036) in the same book. On the other hand, Abraham (1220) was spelled Landtman in one and Landman in the other baptism record. Also, the Loyalist Land records cited above were dated 1834-1837 and to these Abraham (1206) and son (2012) b. 1808 fit better.
All the above, two paragraphs, was written prior to the discovery in 1971 of the Land deed from Michael Lampman (1202) and wife Mary Brewer (1203) to son Henry (5772) and sister Harriet (6616) wife of Jacob Heliker (5029). See pg. 42 ahead. And nosy the births from the bible of (1202). It is now clear that both "Thomas" and the later "Fordyce" were both correct in naming Abraham (born ca 1720-30) as the oldest records indicated he did not marry. The father of the Associate of Dunham was Michael (1202) and the Capt. title of Abraham (1206) derived from his service in Capt. Odell regiment in 1788. He (1206) was witness with John Ruiter at marriage of his daughter Christina (2059) to Francis Monroe (2058) both of Dunham, and daughter Elizabeth (2007) to Philip Ruiter (2010) (Both records Dunham Anglican church). Other probable children were Laura (2055) who married Jacob Ruiter, Jr. (2056), John (5028) who married 2-24-1817 Elizabeth Stone (5030) (Frelighburg Anglican), Abraham (2012) b. 1808, d. 2-23-1841 (per tombstone in Cowansville), wife Margaret (2042), Catherine (2006) who married Jacob Ellison (2009), Abraham (1206) was the millowner on Lampmans Brook near Cowansville. In the same 8th report mentioned above, p. 118,119 there are printed "Extracts from Col. Luke's (he was a storekeeper and Justice of the Peace) living at St. Armand near Lake Champlain) account book 1781-1832 which shows that in August 1790 he sold Abraham Lantman (the spelling is significant) a set of mill irons for 22 pounds, a bag
209
of salt for 10 shillings and one pound of tea for 4 shillings. He was paid in 1796. Significant is the notation just above this entry of a payment 3-4-1796 from John Hoge]. Also on 3-9-1796 Col. Luke records that Matthew Lantman (5035) and Dollie Simpson (5036) were married. This Matthew (5035) is son of John Michael (1202). Matthew (5035) is the T'abe Lampman referenced to on page 792 of Child's Gazatteer as "coming to Swanton, Vt. from Dunham". The marriage of Matthew Lampman to Jane Asselstyne (1995) daughter of Conrad Asselstyne (5784), an early settler, is recorded in both Child's Gazatteer p. 206 and Perry and Barney's "History of Swanton -1882". It is stated that Conrad (5784) with three sons came from Clavarack, N.Y. in 1788. Isaac Asselstine (5785) was elected constable in 1791.
Hemmingway's Vermont Historical Gazetteer in the section concerning The History of Swanton, page 1106, states Conrad Asselstine had eight issue including Jane who m. Matthew Lampman (5035). The theory that Matthew (5035) m. twice is strengthened by the lack of births between 1810 and 1818. Also the Asselstyne family history helps place Matthew (503 (7036) as son of John Michael (1202). This clearly makes the deduction a fact.
Land records show that Abram Lampman (1206) who had the Land Grant in Dunham from King George in 1796 transferred it to son Abram Jr. (2012) in 1896. Copy of this transaction was in the possession of Abraham Junior Lampman (2013) in 1888. In 1864 Abram Lampman (2013) and a sister Jane (2019?) (Jennie (2019) exchanged part of the ancestral land.
Philip Ruiter (2010) and Jacob Ruiter (2056) on 3-16-1876 sold land to Abram Lampman (2013) who per father Abraham (2012) had a Land Grant in Ontario but died young. Abraham (2013) will dated 8-29-1891 left all to wife Sarah Teel (2014) who later sold the 139 acres to John Burnet (D491) 10-3-1910.
Henry Lampman (5772)
(2008) (2031) (5771) (0418) (B651) (7061)
The fourth question concerns the Henry Lampman recorded as an early settler in 1788 in Swanton, Vt. by Hemmenway. Two Henry's are listed in the 1790 census, one (1215) in Stephentown, N.Y. as Henry Lentman 1 male 16 up, 4 males 15 under, 3 females. To help clarify the picture we have two items - the Vermont war record of the Capt. Augustin Odell, Col Abott regiment which was called out 8-1-1781 with Jacob Lampman (1427) and Hank (note this) Lampman (5772) listed and another call out 10-19-1781 with Jacob Lampman (1427) and Abr Lampman (1206) listed. There are sons of John Michael (1202). It is possibly a coincidence that the Lt. Jacob Lampman (1427) Albany Co. 6th Reg. Col. Van Renssaelaer had a Capt. Ode], and an Abraham Lampman (1206) served in the same regiment. The second item - Per Gen. Serve. Admin. War records there was a Jacob Lampman (1427) b. 6-26-1752, lived Hoosick, N.Y. until 1816, then removed to Canadaigua, N.Y. Ontario Co. and died there 1832 age 80. He was a private in Capt. Austin's Co. 1776. No Capt. Austin appears in any of the New York State Albany or Charlotte Co. regiments or for that matter in any New York State regiments. It is probable that the Gen. Ser. Record should have read Jacob (1427), as he did, served in Capt. Augustin Odel's company. The vital records of Vermont pin the Hank (5772) down. Henry (5772) is listed in 1790 Swanton census as 1 male 16 up, 1 male 15 down, 2 females and in the 1800, census Highgate, Franklin Co. as 1 male and 1 female 26/45. 1 male and 2 females under 10. In 1795 he is on the Swanton Grand List as Henry Lampman and in 1796 on the Grand List as Hank Lampman. In 1799 he is on the Swanton Tax List. On 4-29-1800 John Croy of Highgate sold land on Hog Island next to the land of John Heliker to Henry Lampman. And finally on 113-1811 deed is recorded from Henry Lampman to Eb Wheeler of Albany, N.Y. for the land on Hog Island. The deed says Henry (5772) was then of Champlaine, Clinton Co., N.Y. Henry (5772) had son William Henry (4253) b. 1821 Swanton who removed to Clinton Co., N.Y. and then to Wisconsin. Henry (5772) also had son Stephen (5771) b. 1780-1790 per the 1830 census Champlaine, Clinton Co., N.Y. which listed 1 male 40/50, 1 female 30/40, 1 male and 1 female 10/15, 2 females 5/10, 1 females under 10. Henry Lampman (5772) apparently took possession of his father John Michael (1202) land for records on Leon Lalanne (film 500.56) sale of property from Henry Lampman to Harriet Lampman Helliker, widow, 27 August 1810. This is Henry's portion of the "Donation" from Johann Michael Lampman. He used John Wagonner as his attorney (probably his father-in-law). At that time Henry is "of Sazy (Sasy) (Chazy) New York" a few miles South of Champlain. It appears to be a gift from Henry to Harriet. 20 shillings.
The 1831 census Stanbridge, Quebec lists Henry Lampman (5772) farmer, not a land

owner 1M owner 69 1F over 45 both Methodists. In the same household is listed his son John (7061) laborer, not a land owner Church of England, 10 in family, 3-5 and under, 4-6 to 13, 1M 30-60, 1F 14-44. This record takes John (7061) out of the miscellaneous category. The 1825 census Stanbridge lists Henry Lampman (5772) 2 in family 1M 40-59, 1F age 45. Also John Lampman (7061) 7 in family, 1M 2539, 1F 14-44. 3 children under 6, 2 children 6-13.
The 1831 census also lists Stephen Lampman (5771) on same land concession #5 as Henry (5772) and John (7061) 1M 21-29, 1F 14-44, 1 child.
(X60) Easton, Washington co., N.Y., lists James Lampman (7060) age 39, laborer, b. N.Y. (the 1850 census is correct) wife Eliza, age 37, daughter Susannah (7062) age 7. (X60) same place, lists father John Lampman (7061) age 63, son Stephen (C644) age 34 or 37, not clear, miller, daughter Sarah (7065) age 28.
(X60) same place also lists Benjamin Lampman (7067) age 17, farm laborer, b. N.Y., and John Lampman (7048) age 16, farm laborer, b. N.Y., and Julia Lampman (C643) age 19, domestic in James Cornell household. All three possible issue of Henry Lampman (7046). Note again how variable the birth dates are in the four census.
In Washington Co., N.Y., per 1855 census Easton, A John Lampman (7061) age 75, landowner, father of James (7060), a resident for 75 years, therefore, b. there 1780. John (7061) may have been b. as early as 1776 if two census records of James carry through an obvious error. James Lampman (7060) per the 1850 census White Creek, N.Y., age 28, b. N.Y. 1822, wife Eliza A., age 26, b. N.Y. 1824 and sister of James, Sarah A. (7063) age 15, b. N.Y. 1835. However, the 1855 census of Easton, N.Y. lists James (7060) also age 28, b. Washington Co., N.Y., wife Eliza age 26, one dau. Lucene (7062) age 2, b. 1853 and the sister Sarah (7063) age 16, b. 1839. In the 1865 census Easton, NY., James (7060) and Lisa are listed ages 44 and 42 as boarders in the household of Joseph Delavergne. It states they had only one child. This makes it appear the 1850 census was correct and the 1855 one wrong. In 1841 James (7060) and Eliza are listed as members of the Batterville Church, No. Granville, N.Y. (Early Settlers of New York). In 1850 Sarah Lampman (either 7063 or her mother) was listed a member of the Bottenkill Church, Greenwich, N.Y. James (7060) also had a brother Henry (7046) who is listed in the 1850 census Easton, N.Y., miller, age 30, b. 1820, wife Caroline E. (7047) age 26, children; Sarah E. (7065) age 4; John H. (7048) age 2, b. 1848 and a Sarah A., age 14, who again is the sister (7063) and it looks like she was counted twice in the 1850 census. The 1855 census Easton lists Henry (7046) age 35, b. N.Y., Washington Co., wife Caroline (7047) age 31, children; Sarah E. (7065) age 7; Mary L. (7049) age 4; Caroline (7066) age 1. Henry (7046) per his Civil War records d. 5-1-1863, Battle of Chancellorsville, VA., m. 7-4-1840 at Greenwich, N.Y., Caroline Elizabeth Potter (7047) of Greenwich, b. 1824, d. 1-28-1917 with issue; John Henry (7048) b. 418-1848; Mary Lucinda (7049) b. 5-3-1851; Harriet (7050) b. 2-24-1860 and probably others. Caroline (7047) widow, is in the countrywide 1883 list of Pensioners, Greenwich, N.Y., Certificate #24498. The war and pension records of John Lampman (7048) and his wife Elvanah Knapp (7051) give two different birthdates, 1844 and 1846 and the 1880 census Easton, Eddieville, Washington Co., N.Y. give a third 1848, which checks with the Easton 1850 census. One war record makes it clear the John Lampman of Easton Town who enlisted in the 177th Reg. Co. C and John H. Lampman of Greenwich who enlisted in 123rd Reg. Co., A. are the same person. The History of Washington Co., N.Y. lists the following Civil War soldiers but instead of four different persons there are but two.
John Lampman (7048) Easton Town, enlisted in 177th Reg. Co. A.
John H. Lampman (7048) Greenwich Town, enlisted in the 123rd Reg. Co. A.
Henry Lampman (7046) Greenwich Town, enlisted in 123rd Reg. Co. A.
John H. Lampman (7048) m. 1-7-1866 Elvanah Knapp (Greenwich M.E. Church record). The pension application of Elvanah (7051) in 1895 states she was 45, b. 1850, which checks the 1855 census Easton of her father. Checkmarks but no names in the space for children under 16 show they had four children, all b. before 1879. One witness was Electa Lampman (7052), b. ca. 1865/66. The 1880 census Eddieville, Easton, N.Y., lists John Lampman (7048) age 32, wife Elvina (7051) age 28, children; Eddie (7101) age 11, b. 1869, Ella (7102) age 8, b. 1872.
Benjamin Lampman (7067) age 8, b. 1842, N.Y. was listed in the household of

Benjamin Green, 1850 census Cambridge, N.Y., may be a son of Henry (7046).

(X60) Greenwich, N.Y., lists Henry Lampman (7046) 41, b. N.Y., miller, Caroline 37, Elizabeth (7065) 15, John W. (7048) 12, Lucinda (7049) 9, Melissa (D676) 6, Harriet (7050) 4/12 Henry (7046) father John (7061) is possibly the same as John (1469), son of Henry (1215), for which there is no record.
Electa Lampman ((7052) b. 7-1850 (X19) Easton Twp., Washington Co., N.Y., daughter Josephine (0998). Electra (7052) wife.
(X192) Greenwich, New York, lists Electa Lampman (7052) 69, b. New York, John Whitaker (D188) 34, son-in-law, b. New York, Dorothy Lampman (D195) granddaughter 11, b. Massachusetts.
John H. Lampman (7048) b. 4-1848 (X19) Easton, Washington Co., N.Y., wife Clara A., b. 6-1856, children; Lizzie (0997) b. 7-1876, Ernest (A31) b. 2-1879; Albert (A95) b. 7-1881; Caroline (A147) b. 12-1883. (X192) Greenwich, N.Y. lists John H. (7078) 71, Clara 63, Ernest (A31) 40.
Edith M. (A148) b. 1885. This represents a probable second marriage for John (7048) as Elvinah, his first wife is (X19) at Troy, N.Y.
Benjamin Lampman (7067) b. 1-1850 N.Y. (X19) Greenwich, Washington Co., N.Y., in household of son-in-law Enos A. Patten (A77). Elizabeth Lampman (A149) b. 5-1860 (X19) mother-in-law of Patten (A77). George Lampman (A150) nephew of Patten (A77) b. 11-1874. Also Hubert Lampman (A151) brother-in-law of Patten (A77).
(X19) Troy, N.Y., lists Elvineh Lampman (7051) age 49, with daughter Ella S. Loop (7102) b. 1-1871 and grandson George W. Loop (A39) b. 5-1892.
Caroline Lampman (7047) b. 7-1824 N.Y. (X19) Easton, N.Y., in household of son-in-law John S. Nelson (A76) who is husband of either Sarah (7065), Mary (7049) or Caroline (7066).
Mary A. Lampman (A70) b. 3-1826 N.Y. (X19) Whitehall, Washington Co., N.Y., listed with sister Muldis Miller (A71). They are both possible sisters of James Lampman (7060). Miller may also be a married name. One thing is clear, she is the same as Mary, wife of Peter (7822), but Peter is no longer (6914).
In the article titled Lampman's Mills of the Waterloo Advertiser of September 29, 1895 the author identified only as "Mystic Scribe" gives no sources and states his account is based on tradition, states Henry Lampman (5772) was one of a party who in November 1777 arrived at Missiquoi Bay and later came back and settled near Bedford around 1793 as his daughter who married Jacob Bockus (5032) was born there Feb. 1793. In the Vaughan cemetery are stones of Hannah Lampman (5031) d. 2-6-1874 age 81, husband Jacob Bockus (5032) b. ca. 1792 d. 3-19-1841 age 48 years 3 months.
Per Bockus Family, Jacob Bockus (5032) m. 1-30-1814 Hannah Lampman (5031) at St. Armand East Erelighburg Anglican with sister Christina Lampman (2008) witness, with issue - John Edwin (E637) b. 3-28-1815 d. 1893 who m. Sophronia Schoolcraft (E642); Captain Henry Nelson (E638) b. 2-15-1817 d. 1878 m. Virtue Vaughan (E643); Jeremiah Edward (E639) b.6-14-1819 m. Harriet Lord (E649) witness Charity Lampman (E646); Catherine (E645) 1820-1880 not married; Daniel (E646) b. 1828 m. Mary Anne Daniels (E647); Jane (E648) 1830-1918 m. John Vaughan (E649) 1813-1911; Eliza (E650) 1832-1892 m. Hiram Vaughan (E651) 1828-1913; Sylvester (E652) b. 1834. The record states Hannah Lampman (5031) was daughter of Henry (5772) mother Charity Wagoner (Wagner) (E640). This removes the statement on p. 116 Edition 3 that Hannah (5031) and sister Christina (2008) were probable daughters of Stephen (1160). Swanton, Vt. vital records show 12-21-1818 Peter Boomhower (5782) married Tina Lampman (2008) both of Stanbridge, Quebec. No basic proof but it is possible that Henry (5772) also had son Henry (0418) b. 1823 per 1861 census Lambton Co. b. Ontario but per 1871 census same Co. b. 1823 Quebec. Also a son Charles (B651) b. 1825 per TS Arkana century b. 1826 per 1861 census.
Also possible son Simon Lampman (4571) and sister Hannah (?) were bp. 3-24-1819 per Methodist Dunham circuit record 1808-1821. Simon Lampman (4571) per 1861 census Warwick, Lambton Co., Ontario, Canada, age 43, farmer, b. Canada East, wife Elizabeth age 36, b. England. The 1871 census

Also in Sarnia Town William Lampman (4710) farmer, age 59, b. Ontario, Episcopal Methodist and Henry Lampman (E62) age 28, b. Ontario.
The St. Armand church records bp. of daughter Susanna (D184) 1-16-1843 b. 12-18-1811 by Jonas Lampman (E721) from Vermont, mechanic, wife Catherine. A lot of questions could be answered if we knew all the issue of Henry Lampman (5772).
Per 1861 census Lambton Co., Ontario, Charles Lampman (B651) farmer, age 35, b. Upper Canada, wife Rebecca, age 33, b. Ireland, children; Cindrella (A577) age 10; Albert (B657) age 9; Emeline (B658) age 6; Robert (B650) age 2.

Again the father of Peter Lampman (0551) is wide open: The 1880 census of Hartford, Windsor Twp, Vermont lists Hiram Lampman (5460) as a brakeman with two boarders, shoemakers. Next, consider Matthew Lampman (5035) (7036). The T'abe Lampman (5035) to Stanton from Dunham. Is T'abe Matthew or Abraham? The first credible evidence came in 1994 from family records in the possession of Mrs. Hazel (Lampman) Decker (6105) which show that she asked her grandfather John Smith Lampman (4463) who his grandfather was and he answered Matthew Taube (5035) from Canada and New York. We now know from land records in Quebec that Tabe (5035) is brother of Abraham (1206) and son of John Michael (1202).
Tabe Lampman (5035) p. 792 of Child's Directory, states he removed to St. Lawrence Co., N.Y. from Swanton, where he died at an advanced age. Tabe, a native of Holland (?) went first to Dunham Canada, then to Swanton, Vt. with issue - Henry (1750), Ira (1751), Hiram (1752), Peter (1753), Matthew (1754), Isaac (1755), Nelson (1756), Abram (1757), Jane (1758) and Betsy (1759). (another of the many cases where birth is stated to be in Canada or Vermont, the boundary was unclear for years). In the 1870 census Swanton, Vt. Henry (1750) is listed age 75, b. 1795 again in a small difference, in the household of Francis Lampman (7010) age 24, b. N.Y. 1846. In the Francis (7010) household is also listed his probable aunt Julia (6082) (although her birthdates from two sources vary) and his brother John (7012) and sister Mary (6178). The 1850 census, town of Peru, Clinton Co., N.Y., lists Philetus Bromley (7702) age 35, wife Jane M. (possibly (1758)) age 30, who may be a Lampman, and an Elizabeth Lampman age 75.

Matthew Lampman (1754) wife Serena Kennison (1779) has left many records, the most interesting of which is the different birthdates in 4 census records. Any of these dates fit, probably 1807 is correct. The 1850 census Peru, Clinton Co., N.Y. lists Matthew age 41, farmer b. N.Y. 1809, wife Serena age 31, b. Vt. child William (1780) age 7, b. N.Y., child Sydney (Russell) (1781) age 4, b. N.Y. and most interesting a Jane Lampman, age 75, b. N.Y. in 1775. This Jane is either an aunt of Matthew (1754) or more likely his mother, in which case she would surely be Jane Asselstyne (1995). Of course this would require that she be the second wife of Matthew (5035). This is unproved but very likely since the later children of 1860 census of Ione, Allemake Co., Iowa lists him age 57, shoemaker, b. Vt., wife Serena age 42, b. Canada. The 1870 census New Hartford, Butler Co., Iowa lists Matthew (1754) age 63 b. Vt., wife Serena age 53, b. Canada and son Martin (1782) age 15 b. Wisconsin. The 1850 census, Peru, New York lists wife of Abraham Lampman (1757) as Betsy (Elizabeth) whereas in the death certificate of son Francis (4462) Abraham's wife is listed as Rebecca. No other data to confirm this but it does not matter.
