Generation One of Validated Lampman Information in Germany -- Balthasar Lampmann

Balthasar Lambmann (8925)

Balthasar Lambmann ( 8925 ) the elder was born in Gedern, Hessen, Germany in about 1648 at the end of the Thirty Years War. With all of the wars that were fought over this region, it is a wonder anyone survived. According to parish reports, as many as two thirds of the inhabitants died, starved or disappeared during these years of devastating wars. The city of Augsburg for example declined from 20,000 inhabitants to barely 8,000.
Many of the church books were burned or destroyed during this time. (Yet some have survived today.)

Besides being at the mercy of marauding armies, these unfortunate Germans were taxed unmercifully to help pay for the wars by whatever local Prince or King had jurisdiction over them at that time. By 1700 these poor Palatines were bled dry financially and suffered severe food shortages. Another war during the years 1688-1697 was no help. Yet during this time Balthasar Lambmann survived it all. It was common in these days for the inhabitants to live within a city or village for protection, while they traveled out to their plots of land to work. The Thirty Years War and others were all related to the changing of the Catholic to Protestant
religions in these regions, amongst other reasons. Religious persecusion was the norm.
A Pastor's written account taken from the nearby Kroffelbach Parish states:

On Friday, December 21 st, 1668 a large French force came here to Kroffebach and plundered everything here and at Oberquembach, Oberwetz, Niederwetz, Reichskirchen and other villages in the area. They demanded a contribution, then left for Castel near Mainz and there crossed over the Rhine River. I took flight and through God's help escaped their hands. Many of the church books were burned or destroyed during this time. (Yet some have survived yet today.)

Balthasar married Sabina Margaretha Arnold , but no marriage records have been found to date. He died January 14, 1692 in Gedern at the age of 44 during the Augsburg War. Sabina died December 15 th, 1709 in Gedern also, at the age of 78 years and 9 months. This data comes from the Darmstadt, Germany parish records.
Their six known children were:

1. Johannes born April 1667, who married Margaretha Schupp on November 12, 1696 in Gedern, Germany. He died November 22, 1737 in Gedern, Germany.
2. Phillip born September 1672, married Anna Barbara Gunter on April 8, 1706 in Gedern, Germany. He died on June 8 th , 1741 in Gedern, Germany.

4. Peter (1010) born in 1678 in Gedern, Germany. Peter married Catherina Degman in Stockheim, Germany. He died 1734 in New York. Peter is the person I will elaborate on here as our second generation.
5. Anna Maria born March 1681, married Lorenz Giermann von der Hutte. She died December 11, 1726 in Gedern, Germany at the age of 46.
